Words from the Director

Last Ship East is the most ambitious project I have taken on during my decade-long career in filmmaking. Budding as a mental image of two little girls in a cabin since last June, the process from pen to paper and from the page to life has had its ups and downs, but it’s been nothing short of a privilege to pour my heart into the film and bring it to flourish.

Films have a unique power to connect viscerally with their audience and we hope Last Ship East will spark curiosity about this piece of history and the Jewish and Chinese communities that came together during that time. With the political tensions around the world, we hope to remind people of the importance of peace and unity by bringing the film to the international film festival circuit as well as campuses and museums to reach a wide audience.
